I recently purchased an 84 242 turbo, within the last week I began having difficulty engaging first gear at times.
The problem is somewhat intermittent, usually it drives fine with no noise between gears and shifts smoothly. Occasionally though when stopped it is impossible to put the car into first gear, any gear really. Reverse will sometimes go in, but it is difficult to get it back out. It's not that the gears grind or anything, it just feels like there is no space for the lever to go in. Hot or cold does not seem to matter since it has happened first thing in the morning and also while driving.
I am thinking that it must have something to do with the shift linkage rather than the transmission since the car shifts fine once you get it into gear.
I have already changed the fluid with Redline MTL and slightly overfilled it as was recommended in some of the postings. The clutch was replaced about 35K ago.
Any recommendations on what to look for? Thanks as always.
