Over drive not turning off 200

Not sure whats causing this problem but I have a 230 wagon with a overdrive 5 speed and I can't get the overdrive to shut off using the switch on the stick shift. Is there a way I can completely turn it off or is it a relay problem or something to the fact. Would appreciate the help. Thanx
