What is involved in a R13 conversion? 200

Hi,
I have a 1985 245ti with the standard R12 A/C system. I bought the car a year ago and the A/C worked for a month gradually stopped. I'm guessing it's a minor leak in the system. I was wondering if I take it to a repair shop should I get the R12 refilled or should I have it converted to R13. I also want to know what is involved in converting the system and what price range would I be looking at. Thanks
