I am looking to get an 1800. I am not new to Volvo, but pretty ignorant to 1800. Recently, I found two 1800's for sale locally, and I am very tempted to get one or the other. The first is a '66 1800S; the other is a similar '72. Both are in decent shape, with the '66 probably the cleaner overall. My question to you would be: what are the pluses and minuses of these two cars, assuming both are mechanically similar, relatively rust-free, etc. The '66, of course, has the SU's, while the '72 is injected. I assume the '66 also has points/condenser, etc. while the '72 has more solid state stuff(?). What about engine/drive train stuff? Suspension?
What other pointers can you give me about my quest for the perfect 1800? Each of these cars is in the $4500 range; is that about right? Many thanks.
