could driveline clunk be universal joints? 700 1987

my '87 760 turbo has started making an occasional "clunk" and I wonder if it could be the universal joint. when I go from coasting at 30 mph and press accelerator to go 40 it will make a slight jerk/clunk. 152k miles, AW-71 auto tatransmission w/OD. my mechanic says they will usually go 250k before replacement. what do you think? thanks a lot.
