Odometer Gear Replacement 80 GL 200 1980

I have identified the 14 tooth gear in the odometer drive train as being cracked (radially). Has anyone taken on the replacement of the gear on a '80 GL? What's the best way to safely remove the other plastic gears so that I can access the 14t gear? TIA
