motor mount diagnosis 700 1990

My Volvo has started transmitting lots of noise and vibration into the cabin.
My own guess and from scanning other posts it seems to be a motor mount.
The noise starts even while the starter is cranking as well as when its running/driving.
Is there an accurate way to isolate which mount is bad?
Is there risk of additional damage by driving the car until I can order pars?
