Bleeding Front Brakes 900 1992

I replaced the strut inserts on my 1992 944 today and had to disconnect the brake line at the fender inner wall so I could lay the strut on the ground. After I put it all back together I went to bleed the front brakes. However, I could not get the pedal to firm up and there was hardley no pressure at the front bleeder screws after numerous pumps at the pedal. Is there something that I am missing here? Do I have to bleed the back brakes also?
