very loud noise from engine... 200

Recently, i have been noticing a very different and loud almost high pitched sound developing under the hood. I think i sourced the location to the timing belt and pulleys, but i was wondering if there are anyother parts of the engine that makes unbearable noises? If so, i would like to (if possible) try to fix those if they do start to appear. I would appreceate any help.
