Removing B21FT engine in project car ... Any suggestions 200

I'm just ready to start working on a project car that I picked up earlier this year. It is a 1983 244 ti with 160k miles on it. I have never taken a motor out of a Volvo before but it appears fairly easy (according to Haynes).

For now my intention is to rebuild only the top half of the engine. Of course I will change all hoses and wiring harnesses, mounts etc. But the main reason why I would like to remove the engine, is so that it is easier for me to clean up and repaint the engine bay. I also wouldn't mind giving the block a good cleaning ... you know, to make it show worthy.

I guess my two main questions would be:

1. Do I have to remove the engine and transmission or can remove just the engine easily?

2. The paint around the turbo in both this project car and my daily driver (1983 242 ti) has bubbled and fallen of due to the extreme heat. Is there anyway to prevent this from occurring? A different type of paint perhaps.

Any insight on these questions or any comments in general would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Greg
