Considering a 1994 960 900

Hello All,

I am a new poster here as well as a potential new Volvo owner. I am looking at a 1994 Volvo 960 with 82K miles. The car is my brothers and is in nice shape. I am curious about the opinion of others on the car. I have been reading alot of the posts on this series car and am seeing mixed reviews. I have a few specific questions....

1) What year 960's and what model engines were plagued with the porous leaking engine block? And how do I determine if this engine either is doing this or will do this?

2) is there any reason that I should consider to disuade me from buyuing this car?

I am familiar with the big issues surrounding it. A) the leaking rear main seal .... already been replaced with the updated appropriate seal so not a problem B) the sticking valves resulting in valve piston interaction...... not a problem with regular maintenance and oil changes C) Timing belt issues ..... The belt was literally replaced last weekend I watched it done and then the car was driven from Eastern PA to Central Vt and back with no issues D) and of course the porous block which I am unsure about.

My brother (a relative volvo fanatic) seems to think that this is the same inline 6 that was used in the 1970's are volvos. Is this correct or not....

And a little more on the fun side..... Does anyone know of any mods available for this car, i.e. suspension, exhaust, performance?

Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is a little jumbled
