Opinions wanted on response to bad repair job 200 1988

Although I do the majority of works on my 240's, I sometimes don't have the energy, time, etc. & take my car to a repair facility (& again reinforce why I do so much myself). Just before my 2 week vacation (just completed) I took in my '88 245 w/ about 145k miles. The car was often stalling when stopping at red lights/stop signs. Also the tailgate was not latching. Both problems on a long trip. The repair place (which specializes only in Volvos & Saabs) replaced the idle control valve. They charged me $345 and had the car for 3 days. There was no difference in the tailgate or stalling. I took it back on the 4th day. Still absolutely no improvement(I don't think they even looked at the car, it was in the same place). Had it for 2 weeks on vacation & put up with things like stalling out every time I moved up one car in the line at the toll booth. Had to be cautious and worry about my belongings being stolen from the rear since I could not lock the tailgate. My question: take it back to them to try again after 4 days, or ask for my money back, or fix it myself? Possibly the idle control valve needed replaced but now needs adjustment so pay them for the part but ask for the labor money back? Thanks for replies, sorry for the length...
