head removal/1988 740 turbo

Is it necessary to remove the camshaft sprocket when pulling the head? I have taken the timing belt off of the sprocket but it seems that I will also need to remove the sprocket so that I can take the head off. What about the belt tensioner? Thanks. Sorry for asking so many dumb questions, but I have not done this before and the procedures in my haynes manual are too generic.
