The internet is a wealth of information. Take for example the follwing I found while searching for a new fan blade.

My 1982 240 DL sedan fan blower motor died last
Oct. Using my Bentley service manual as a guide,
I proceeded to disassemble the passenger side of
the center console (Volvo builds the car around
the heater core and fan blower). To my dismay I then
moved over to the driver side and could not image
how I could perform the same disassembly with all of the
interference from wire harnesses, etc.
At this point I gave up and took the car to my Volvo mechanic.
They had a much better procedure. Using a dremel
tool they cut an access hole in the fan motor covers. After replacing the motor,
they simply glue a piece of rigid plastic over
the opening which was cut. My mechanic actually had to charge
me a little extra to reassemble the side I took apart.

Where was this nugget of wisdom before I started this project?
This makes me ponder just how much of the labor is really labor when we take our beloved brick to the dealer or favorite mechanic? Why would we even think twice about looking as long as the fan is quiet as a mouse when they were done.
Anyway too late for the easy route.

Just pondering the thought.
