Antenna Mast replacement 900 1994

FAQ says to disassemble the motor drive unit and remove the fragments. My drive unit appears to be a molding one-piece unit. There is a small removable panel on one side allowing access to the motor leads, but it doesn't afford very good access to the drive gear, etc., so as to allow removal of broken pieces. Is there some trick I am missing?
