The FAQ describes something like what happened to me yesterday -- except my problem began when I couldn't get the key IN the lock. After some jiggling it finally went in, but I couldn't turn it. Then I couldn't get it out!
With lots of sweating and cursing, this scene was repeated 3 or 4 times (once the key went in at a crazy downward angle). What seemed to fix(?) it was some steering wheel wiggling -- although I'd parked straight in with no wheel cramping or column lock tension when shutting off.
Exactly what kind of mechanism is use to "trap" the key until the shifter goes into Park (when shutting off)? It seemed like whatever it is might have been related, at least it felt like it.
