Removed blue relay but everything still works 900

When I bought my 94 960 I would go to the garage and here the fan blower motor running even if the car had been off for hours and it would not stop.I ended up disconnecting a blue relay where all the AC stuff is behind the glove box,I unhooked it during one of it's intermittent runs and the fan has never come on by itself since.all is working well in the AC operation and my question is what the relays for?I dont plan on reconnecting this relay since it's working fine,it's a hella relay part # 4RD 003 520-52 SO WHATS IT supposed to do? Another thing that's happened only a few times is the radiator cooling fan doing the same thing,but I only have to turn the ign. on and off and it stops.These 960's have their own electrical demons but I'm fairly good at troubleshooting.
