My car is a 1991 245, with an automatic transmission. Many times when starting it, almost always when cold, less frequently when warm, the engine initially refuses to idle on it's own. I'll crank it over (it starts immediately), and give it a bit of gas for a few seconds till it decides it'll idle on by itself. From then on, it runs fine, and never stalls. During this starting period, there's a strong odor of fuel from the exhaust. I've read of defective computers in the 91s, is this likely the cause? Could it be something simpler?
