So THAT'S the problem. 1800 1962

I've had my 1962 P1800 for nearly two years and in that time, despite the joy it's given me, it has always seemed a bit gutless, despite my best efforts to improve it. WELL! Today I was cleaning the water out of the gas tank (again) but had taken a break from that familiar task (because some news crew was filming two feet away from where I broke down and I kept getting dirty looks when I'd swear loudly and drop heavy wrenches on the exhaust) and was messing around with the linkage, half my attention trying to follow what the news man was talking about, when I noticed that when the accelerator pedal is at full throttle the carbs were only about 85% open. I tried to figure out where the pedal was hanging up and finally followed the concurrent metallic *click* with a hose in my ear to find that LO AND BEHOLD! The first part of the pedal linkage coming through the firewall was terminating on the bellhousing flange! I adjusted the linkage, finished sopping the water out of the system, and am now the proud owner of what feels like a brand new car. I stomped on the gas and the growl of the SUs sounded like doomsday's imperialistic hellish dynasty.
