Power window noise -SCARY!! 900 1993

My driver's side window started making a loud clacking noise when it reaches
the bottom of the travel range. It still functions normally but sounds (LOUDLY)
like something is about to give out. I pulled the door trim panel off but
have found no loose parts in the bootom of the door. The Haynes (UK Version) manual
that I'm using shows a procedure for adjusting the stop screw in the reinstallation
procedure, but it appears to be for the manual crank windows, as my door has
no comparable screw to what's shown in the picture.
Any ideas what's wrong?
