Of course, one could argue why you'd want to rev higher then the point where the engine produces it's rated maximum power (having already surpassed it's maximum rated torque preak). This is a good point actually. If the car has a manual tranny, and can reach it's indicated redline of 6500rpm in 1st through 4th gears (5th gear or overdrive being excluded), then will it be faster if you went to redline before upshifting or would it be faster if you shifted at the point where the engine produces maximum horsepower (which would be 5100 rpm in the case of my intercooled 245GLT) since nothing seems to be gained, power or torque wise, by revving past this point and onward to redline??? In essence, if torque peaks at 3900rpm and horsepower peaks at 5100 rpm, then why bother revving to it's indicated 6500 rpm redline? Why not just pull the plug and upshift at 5100rpm?
