Gas smell after trip 200 1992

When I step out of the car after a trip there is usually a gas smell. With my blood hound nose I find that most of the time it is only on the driver side and usually near the rear wheel well and occasionally at the front. I usually can't detect it in the engine compartment. I have looked under the car with the engine running and car see no obvious leaks.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
