How many seconds of cranking does it take to start? 700

I have a 1989 740GL with a B230F (300,000KM) and it takes anywhere between two to four seconds(cold and hot engine,respectively) of cranking to get the car started. Is this normal? I would expect the car to start on the first crank but maybe I am expecting too much. What do I need to change to make it start quicker?
