B200E 740 GL Estate 244k miles.
Recently covered 1350 miles round trip in 3 days, car drove like a new one!
London to Paris, Paris to Ferry: nearly missed last boat to England due to missed junction turning on France A1 connecting up with A15 and floored pedal to avoid being charged full new crossing price due to nearly missing booking.
Covered over 70 miles at speeds of 120 - 140 mph.
I'm not boasting that this was a clever or sensible thing to do, but car went like a dream and handled fine even at these extreme speeds, plus being loaded with 400 kilos of pinball machine in the back!
Then drove 400 miles to Blackpool averaging 80-90mph, when every now and then a warbling unneven squeal was coming from engine in 3 to 10 second bursts, and loud enough for passers by in local vicinity to hear it coming from car, usually in service areas and at low speeds - up to 20mph.
Over last 3 weeks, this squeal has increased in pitch and every time I try to get it analysed the squealing stops! (now squeals unneavenly up to 60 mph).
Have been advised to wait till it gets worse, but 'boy' is it noisy when it starts! And now comes and goes for longer spurts that can last up to 5-7 miles and just stop almost as quickly as it starts, and then all day on rest of 60 mile trip will stay quiet.

Dealer say's its almost certainly dry Alternator bearing or water pump, but both of these jobs are expensive and even changing these may not cure this incessent noise when it starts.

Could the over-speeding of car have caused this to happen I wonder?
Any similar experiences out there in Volvo land?
Any light shed, advice or opinions would be gratefully recieved.
