I recently purchased a used 964 w/96k miles. The car had been "ridden hard and put away wet." Virtually all of the problems I've seen posted on this site related to this model were visited upon this car (strut through the hood, air going off under acceleration, etc.).
Anyway, it has many noises that I'm unaccustomed to from my 940 Wagon - the A/C not only tends to die under heavy acceleration, but when I decelerate (or let my foot off the gas), I hear a kind of swooshing/clunking sound from what seems to be the driver's side lower firewall. What is this noise, and what can I do about it? Is it related to the poor cooling that I get under acceleration?
