Compressor Failure?? 700

Just replaced all the belts accessory bushings and the harmonic balancer on my 90 760T (187,000m). Now when A/C compressor kicks in, I hear a faint grinding oscillation and the engine drops ~100 rpm or so at idle......

Question: How do I tell whether it's the compressor itself or just the compressor clutch? Note: Converted the A/C from CFC to 134a two summers ago (~140,000m). Thanks in advance.
