High idle on new P1800es 1800 1972

Hi everybody,
After many years of pining for one, I finally bought a P1800ES. The car runs pretty well for an unrestored vehcile, but it has two problems.

First, it tends to idle very high... usually around 3000 rpm, although if I tap on the gas, the idle drops down to ~ 900 and is pretty stable. Once I start driving again, however, the idle will jump back up.

I sprayed starter fluid over the fuel injectors to check for vacuum leaks, and it didn't change the idle. Any suggestions on where I should start to look for the source of this problem?

Second, I can't the heating/cooling fan to blow forward. I know the fan works... I can direct air to the floor and up to the front windshield, but not out the front. I'm not sure if there are disconnected vents or if I'm doing something wrong. I don't have an owner's manual and the P1800 heating/color system is not what I'm accustomed to. The car has non-functioning factory AC, if that matters.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide feedback for me on this matter.
Mark
