Bulb out relay - red vs black and compatibility 700

Are the black bulb out relays made by bosch for early 740's compatible with the later red hella bulb out relays? I noticed that there is one extra pin labeled 'S' on the newer red relay and not on the black one. Other than that, the connections look similar. But, I do not want to stuff the black relay into my car(came with the red relay) and blow something inadvertently.


My hunch is that the new red relay takes into account the overhead brake light and the old one does not. Therefore they may not be compatible. Your thoughts are appreciated and thanks in advance.
