stuck at 55! 900 1995

On the highway, at 55mph, the Volvo 960 does not respond to the gas pedal.

You give it more gas and it seems like a disconnect, eventually it does pick up speed but this happens more frequently now.

This car has 50,000 miles, has been an intown car, and wants to get out on the highway now.

I plan on having the car fixed but I need to know what's up before I go there.
