Rim sizes for 82 242 200

Hi Guys,

I have an 82 242 (good condition with IPD sway bars and Bilstein shocks and struts) that I need to install new tires and rims on. I plan to keep it simple and go with steel wheels from the Tire Rack (they indicate that their source is Volvo or a Volvo supplier for the steel rims).

I also plan to run an all season radial (M&S rated) of the size 195-70-14. The stock rims are 4 to 4.5 inches and I plan to use 5.5 inch wheels with the new tire size --- unless someone indicates that these wheels are too wide for this vehicle in terms of tire clearance.

I know a number of people who have 240's of this age who have not had trouble with clearnance or tire rubbing with the 195-70-14 wheels so I think I'm probably in the clear. But it would be good to get the thoughts of folks who have had some practical experience with this before finalizing this move toward 5.5 inch rims for this vehicle. Thanks.

Regards, Dave
