Hello,
I live in the Portland, OR area and when you have to renew your car's tags, we have to take our vehicles into DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality) and they test your vehicle for emissions and such. Well my 1986 240 DL Volvo passed 2 out of the 3 tests. The problem area was 'Excessive Nitrogen Oxide.' In this little booklet that they gave me it has these for possible problems:
-Fouled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) Vavle
-EGR system passages clogged
-Wrong spark plugs (those with elevated heat range)
-Malfunctioning catalytic converter
-Lean fuel mixture (incorrect fuel mixture)
Has anyone had a similar problem to this? What would anyone suggest for the easiest (and hopefully cheapest) things to try first?
Thanks!
