AMM is expensive 200

I have a 89 240, check engine light on the code is 231, "too rich mixture" ?, I could not get a steady idle, engine sputter and stall, while engine off I diconnect the AMM, the car starts fine and idle well. Is this means I need a new AMM ? I check pin 6 and 7 and not getting any reading at all ( HAyne Manual said shpuld have 3.5 - 4 ohm )
FCP listed $205 for A new one,I know it's expensive, but where can I fine test procedure before I replace it, any other parts I need to replace at the same time ? thanks.

Tom
