My 1987 760 turbo wagon is acting up. When the motor is warm and I turn it off (go into a store) then come out and start it up with the AC on it starts fine...but when I try to pull away from the stop sign there is NO power...until I turn off the AC...Then it accelerates fine even if I turn the AC back on. In fact it works great thru all the gears, downshifts on call...but if I stop at a light the problem resurfaces as I try to pull away. After driving for about 3-5 minutes this "stumbling lack of power from stop with AC" problem simply goes away on its own.
Never happens when starting from cold. Car drives great all of the rest of the time...but when this happens my ass is stuck out in traffic right when it is least expected. Really scarey in the parking lot everything feels fine but when you see the gap in traffic and start to scoot...nothing (but horns).
Mine 1987 760 Turbo wagon has 109k on it. It has new coil, cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, no vaccum leaks, cold AC, new air filter, clean flame trap tubes,etc...the power is good and comes on smooth and quick whenever this gremlin is not working.
By lack of power I mean that I push the accelerator and the car moves at about 5 mph regardless of pedal position. There is no bucking or strange noises. When the AC is turned off you can feel the motor "gather up" power for about 3-4 seconds the normal smooth acceleration.
Help!
