Ball joint - strut tube question - pooping in frt end

Having a problem id-ing a pop in the front end (while backing and turning -sometimes starting out and turning).

In looking at the FAQ's, I think I see that when replacing struts, the ball joints come into the picture.

Previous owner had struts replaced - installation suspect - could there be a link between this and the pop.

Side note: This was not very noticeable until I swapped the wider 16" tires and rims from the 91 940.

Any help appreciated.
