A/C not cold in my '93 240 200

So the shop said the A/C system was low on freon. I bought a gauge and some 134a to charge it up. However, the gauge goes to the red, which means the system has enough freon and that it may be mechanical.

When it's in the 80s or very low 90s it's okay, but not COLD. Fan works great.

Any clues?
