Loud Screeching Noise when starting 200 1984

Been having this problem for some time now..Sometimes when i start the car on cold start, there is this loud screeching noise when i turn the ignition. Sometimes only after a few times when will the car starts. what seems to be the problem here. The problem disappears after running for a while. The car also seems more and more hesitant to start these days. Alternator problem??
