Gear and O/D slipping, stickshift 200

I have a 240dl 81 manual gear with 230k. My O/D started to slipp first, then after a few thousen mils the 2nd,3rd, and 4rt gear started slipping. Do I need a new box ???
I hav been told that to change O/D you have to change gearbox.
