I'm hopingt that this post will better describe the shuddering vibration that's bugged me since I got this car 6 months ago. And maybe get me pointed towards a solution. Something is NOT RIGHT with this car.
Symptoms:
> A barely perceptible vibration when idling in Neutral
>The idling vibration increases to a very noticeable shudder when either Reverse or Drive is engaged (holding brake on)
>It can be felt throughout the car. Loose plastic bits begin to buzz when the frequency is right. Road speed tends to mask it, but the buzz can be felt in the accellerator pedal (much like M+S tire "buzz" but I feel it's really the same idling vibration + load + speed)
>It's annoying enough to make me shift into Neutral at long lights, to reduce it
I first posted this as "Tranny Vibration", and replaced the motor mounts as suggested. Then I replaced the Tran mount also. At first, it may have improved somewhat with these changes, but now seems as severe as when I got the car in March. And I just checked the harmonic balancer with a timing light. All I can imagine is that:
>Some engine "flaw" is being transmitted thru the (cheap MTC) mounts to the chassis
>It's normal (?) 4 cylinder vibration that said Cheap MTC mounts can't mask (but I've never noticed this in other Volvos (240s))
>Or maybe it really is something in the AW 71L? (my first, with no other complaints) I'll check the FAQ to see if I can access the torque converter bolts next
I'm not pleased with this otherwise decent car (my 1st non-240), and am really grasping at straws here. Anyone have a clue?
