First off let me say that this is my first post here on the boards. I live in UT and am (well mabey not so to you guys) very curiously attracted to 200 series volvos- and well - the new S models as well!
I currently drive a 1991 Toyota MR2 Hardtop NA and previously drove a 1998 Ford SVT Contour (until at 46K it spun 4 of 6 rod bearings- i have pics -SCARY!!)
anyway - my friend just moved back up to washinton state and left her 1983 volvo 240 diesel here in UT. She said I could have it if I wanted it- but that it currently doesnt run - she is a bit of an airhead so it could be because she has a dead battery- I dont know. anyway im interested in the car - but dont know if I should even bother to haul the car away.
here is a bit about the car- the only thing wrong with it is the engine and a missing shift knob- the body is IMPECCABLE and the interior is good for its age. there is only one pea sized rust spot peeking through near the rear window and the dash only has one small crack. the radio is in the trunk - but who cares.
anyway - I want sooooo badly to do a converse conversion to a 5.0 V8 as I think that would be so awsome- but I dont know the costs and here in UT it is illegal to swap from diesel to gas or the other way around.
I also thought about mabey another diesel option - I dunno - a cummins????? I dont know squat about the diesels in the 200's except that everyone raps on them- but the car is in wonderful shape cept the engine.
IS THIS WORTH MY TIME??
anyone have specs on the volvo diesel engine? weight ect ect?? the cummins weighs about 1000 lbs so I think thats out of the question - but ITS FREE and the body is near perfect especially considering the age!
