Alternator connection - help! 200 1981

I previously posted, but couldn't find the thread. My problem is that I can't find the male half on the alternator for the small red wire with female spade. Would there be a start/run problem if I don't hook this up? I searched with a mirror across the back of the alternator, and didn't see any candidate locations. The length of the wire suggests to me that it would more than likely be on the side of the alternator closest to the block. Any help is appreciated.
