Intermittant Bad Idle... my mechanics think I'm crazy 700 1990

I have a 1990 740GLE 16v.
It starts/idles great cold... but when I restart it anytime within about a 6 hour period, it idles extremely low -engine violently shakes & feels like it's going to quit- when I'm in park or at a stop (which is a lot!)
However, it's fine when it's driving.
My mechanics don't know what to tell me.

Now I've been through the forums & FAQ's, and I've found some advice on "intermittant no start" problems, but I haven't found any info on "intermittant crappy idle" problems! Are these problems related at all?

Some related things I know my mechanics have done were replacing my AMM (twice), temp sensor, cleaning the fuel intake valve, and doing a major tune-up.
Any advice on what I could tell them to look for?
Or even something simple I cound look for myself (keeping in mind that I am somewhat less than a novice when it comes to engine parts!)

Thanks for any help!
