Temperature Guage YOYO 200 1982

My 82 200 temperature guage will fluctuate from normal reading to where it sits when the ignition is off while driving. When I accelerate heavy it sometimes sits at half way. Is thewre a problem with the guage or the temp sending unit and where is it ? The car runs fine and dosen't overheat.
