Hard Shift into 2nd 700 1992

I have 1992 740 Turbo Wagon with 103,000 miles and an auto trans. At slow speeds, normally in stop and go traffic, the trani goes into second harder than at regular acceleration. The shift seems way to hard. Local Volvo mechanic said shift cable was adjusted correctly. The only recent work that was done was the replacement of the RPM sensor. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
