engine overheating at high speed 200 1991

My 1991 245 is getting weirder by the day. The newest trick is that the engine is overheating on highway ...!?!? I can go in town for a whole day and even at 40 degrees Celsius that we got here this summer the engine temperature gauge will stay at 9 o'clock as supposed. But once I get on the highway and start going over 100 km/h the engine starts overheating, and if you go constantly for more than a quarter of an hour over 140 km/h the gauge needle gets in the 11 o'clock area, close to, but not entering the red zone. Oil and coolant levels are OK, the coolant has been replaced 3000 km ago, the radiator was cleaned at the last coolant change. The car has 250000 km with no engine overhaul, but it's not worn out, doesn't eat oil, compression is good, fuel consumption is low and doesn't have any other sign of abnormality, besides this.
