cruise control operation 200 1988

I continue to work on the cruise control in my 1988 240GL. While it now engages, it will not maintain the speed set when going at 50 mph or higher. It appears to operate better at slower speeds (30 to 45 mph) Upon pressing the set button, speed will drop off 2 to 4 mph. Any incline in the roadway will cause the car to lose 8 to 15 mph. I have searched the archives for similiar problems, finding one case that was similiar. The solution seemed to lay in the vacuum servo diaphram that pulls the throttle open having a leak.

If that is the problem, can a person replace just the diaphram? What in the heck does it look like? Where can a person get one? Am I overlooking something that would be obvious to someone who may be familiar with this sort of problem?

I would appreciate any suggestions.

thank you!
