Hooked up fuel lines backwards ... will this cause a problem? 200

This past weekend I changed the head gasket on my 1983 242 ti (cis fuel system). When I got everything back together it would not fire up. After closer investigation I discovered that we reversed the fuel supply and return lines at the fuel distribution system (right front fender). Now the car starts fine and sounds great but will not idle on its own. Have I messed something up by reversing the lines? I'm not sure what else it could be. Thanks for the help.
