Air Mass Meter issue - 740 Turbo Wagon ???? 700 1986

Hi to all Volvo gurus.

I was hoping to get a definitive peice of insgith on a specific engine performance and idle issue.

Volvo Tech at Manchester Motors in Manchester, NH checked my 740 for vacuum leaks after I had the entire distributor replaced to dude to a seperate issue with a failed Hall Effect sensor in the distributor. The Distrib was replaced - ok, I am fine with this. ($497.00) Ai little bit of an ouch !

Anyways, the car is idling roughly and has very poor power. Sometimes the engine dies if I don't feather the accelerator. There is something wrong here !The Volvo tech diagnosed a bad AMM. So here are my questions.

1) Is this an accuarate dignosis ?

2) Where is the specifically AMM located ? (my old E21 Series Beemers had a disc type Air flow sensor in line with the air intake on the intake manifold, damned if I can find anything like that on the Volvo !! LOL!)

3) How much should I pay for new one ? (ball park)

4) Is it worth trying to locate a previously loved AMM from the guy over in Fitchburg - Leominister and what should I pay for a used one (ball park) ?

Thanks in Advance !!

Rich George
