Fuel Pump, In-Tank, Cover-Plate Electrical Fix Needed 200

I've got a 1979 245 DL Wagon with the fuel tank level sensor and in-tank pump access at the top of the tank. The electrical connection for the pump has an open circuit somewhere in the plastic potted connection on the outside of the tank cover plate.

I plan on drilling and cutting off the plastic and potting, fixing the connection, and then using epoxy to seal it all back together again.

Has anyone else tried this???
Any recommendations / tips???

Thanks
