I have recently bought a 1995 940 2.3 SE Turbo estate, having owned a 240 Estate for 8 years. The car has done 107k, is in very good condition and been regularly maintained by Volvo garages. Even though the whole car is quieter than the 240, it is only natural to listen out for odd sounds. There is one (of course!), and I’m not sure if it normal, or something brewing up.
After a journey (with the engine warmed up) and running on tickover, and when the car is stationary with the windows closed, . There is a slight pulsating sound coming from the front of the car in the engine/gearbox direction, this is when sitting in the drivers seat.
It’s a bit irritating, though not intrusive.
The sound is not a tappet type noise (although the tappets are a little noisy, and probably will need adjusting soon), and not a knocking, more along the lines of a muffled exhaust leak. Can anyone advise me on whether this is worth investigating further, and if so how, or is it just one of those noises you find in this model?
Many thanks in advance
