Inner Tie Rod? 700

I've got a shimmy under braking on 1990 740 16v. Very slight vibration at speed.

With wheels off the ground, I have some movement with hands at 9 & 3 o'clock, no play at 12 & 6. The wheel and axle stub all seem to move as one.

It looks like I've got a bad inner tie rod or a bad rack.

I know the inner tie rod is replacable, but does this sound like a bad tie rod?

Anyone had any experience similar?
